FAQ
All of these routes descend approximately 1,000 feet to the canyon floor of Oak Creek Canyon. Once at the bottom, the Via Ferrata is the only reasonable exit out of the canyon. There is no other way to get out of the canyon. The steep and vertical nature of Oak Creek Canyon should not be underestimated. Do not sign up for these trips unless you are confident in your abilities. If you are reserving for a group, it is your responsibility to ensure that everyone in your party understands what is involved.
The Via Ferrata only trip involves a 400ft roped lower, this is different from a rappel in that your guide will be controlling your speed of descent. The North Fork involves 5 rappels up to 200ft and the South Fork involves 6 to 7 rappels up to 180ft.
The Via Ferrata only is a dry trip. It does involve crossing Oak Creek but this can usually be done without getting your feet wet. The North Fork and South are wet trips, wading through water is certain. The North Fork can flow but volume varies depending on current water levels, the South Fork is always flowing and involves rappelling in waterfalls.
We will provide wetsuits/drysuits when necessary, participants are responsible for appropriate footwear that will get wet.
