Activity Area

Oak Creek Canyon

1000ft of descent followed by 1000ft of ascent on steep and difficult terrain.

The Via Ferrata is the only exit once at the bottom of the canyon.

What to bring

  • 2 liters of water per person
  • Snacks/Trail Food
  • Hiking or approach shoes work best. Running shoes/sneakers will work.
  • Seasonally appropriate hiking attire.
  • Sun protection.

Trip Details

From the starting location transport 1 hour to the trailhead. Gear up and hike down to the rim of Oak Creek Canyon. A 500ft roped lower must be completed to reach the canyon floor. Climb 500ft feet up and out of the canyon on steep and exposed via ferrata terrain. Traverse back across the canyon with a Tyrollean traverse, then hike steep terrain back to the trailhead. Return to the original trip starting location.

Participants must be physically fit and mentally prepared for significant exposure to heights. Ensure all in your group are aware of the committing nature of this route.
